This is JJ’s and Dorothy’s Barn. They’ve lived here forever outside of St. Ynez, California. And before them, their father lived here forever. I was trying to fuse the sky with the barn, making the painterly background shaped with spontaneous and open brushwork.The challenge was to make the foreground (most of the canvas) interesting. I’ve studied Charles Movalli's paintings, and tried to solve the foreground the way he would. He is such a master of turning a big empty space into a painterly delight.
