This is my vegetable garden on top of Sonoma Mountain. In the winter and early spring I grew chard and poppies and some lettuce. The tree in the background is my favorite live oak tree on my whole 40 acres. I’ve spent many a sunset sitting in that tree (Pilsner Urquell in hand) looking west as the sun dropped over the mountains and the light turned a peachy-yellow color. It was a delicate balance to co-exist with the gophers (vols), wild turkeys, deer and a mélange of other mountain critters. But I did it.
