Contemporary Fauvist, Expressionist Painter
This painting was made in September in a very small village just south of Taos. I arrived in New Mexico a few days before my outdoor painting workshop was to begin. I climbed to the top of the hill behind the village to capture this quaint scene. That’s the Rio Grande River running through the village. It was a very hot day. I painted “Sunday Morning in Pilar” in this same location six years earlier. The village with it’s red-roofed wooden church has hardly changed with the noticeable exception of more adobe houses in the village. Kathleen Elsey |
