Georgia O'Keefe made this church so famous. It is actually called St. Francisco de Asis, however, Georgia called it Rancho de Taos, so that how what it is most commonly referred to. There is constantly a group of photographers and painters sketching, shooting, painting. I chose to paint at 7:00 a.m. to beat the others to the scene, and to beat the heat. I painted on July 11th and 12th , the same time each day. It was my intent to capture the bright morning light and the soft colors cast in the shadows of the organic shapes of the back of the church.
