Below, you can see this painting after several hours of sketching and planning and about one hour of painting. I wanted to cover the canvas with paint using big brushes and expressive brushwork transferring the shapes and colors into paint on canvas. I had previously named this painting Presidio Steps since you can see the Presidio and sailboats and the San Francisco Bay Yacht Club & Harbor in the distance. After finishing the painting, I was told that these steps have several names, one of which is Lyon Street Steps. I like Lyon Street steps because Lyon Street is where I began when I climbed the steps as I lived in Cow Hollow on Broderick Street. On this beautiful summer day when I began the painting on Pacific Street, there was quite a breeze which was great for the sail boats, but not so great for my large canvas and easel up there on the hill. I had to hold on to the canvas to keep it from flying off the easel. It was pretty exciting for that hour and then I decided best to call it a wrap and finish in the studio.
