I made the above painting at Oak Hill Farm in Glen Ellen, California in 2010. The first day of the Sonoma Painting Workshop is always the day we go to the Red Barn at Oak Hill Farm to paint. It is always a beautiful Indian Summer day in October when we are welcomed so heartily by the staff at the organic farm. There are so many amazing views to paint including the entire contents of the Red Barn. Early morning and later in the afternoon are the best for painting the field crops of vegetables and flowers. The photo us painting was taken later in the afternoon about 4:00. My painting was made in the morning when the sky was rather stormy. The sun is starting to drop behind Sonoma Mountain, where I lived for four years. There were some great paintings made that day by my fearless plein air painters. We followed up that fantastic first day of the painting workshop with a Mexican dinner in the town of Sonoma.
