Kathleen Elsey paintings include landscapes, beach scenes, still life and interior scenes. One of my all time favorites definitely in my top ten is "The Workshop" at Casa del Herrero (House of the Blacksmith) in Montecito, California.
The workshop of Mr. Steedman’s was particularly interesting to paint since it is an eclectic assemblage of tools, inventions, vases, furniture and memories emerging from the dimly lit room. Mrs. Steedman also used this workshop to do her award-winning flower arranging. The view through the workshop doorway of the 1937 Buick Roadmaster was irresistible. It was a brave painting for me full of complex objects and dimly lit. "I spent three afternoons painting inside the Mr. Steedman's workshop. And then many more hours in my own painting studio."
I like to paint interior-scapes that tell a story and capture that moment in time. And that moment can be special to me because it is a moment of peace, beauty, light, or quiettime. I am one of ten plein air painters invited to paint at the Casa del Herrero in the month of July. The paintings will be first exhibited at the Casa on August 19. I will also exhibit the five paintings I made at Casa at the Santa Barbara Studio Artist annual tour in September. You might like to see two other paintings made of Mrs. Steedman‘s bedroom and also the Kitchen at Casa del Herrero. |
