Historic Old Adobe with Olive Tree  16” x 20”

This old adobe painting was made on location in Santa Barbara at the Historical Museum in the historic old town area. The old adobe was built in 1836 and acquired by the museum in the 1980's. Thank you to the Historical Museum for allowing me to enjoy the beauty of the old adobe and olive tree swaying in a gentle breeze on that spring afternoon. Below you see how I begin a painting when working plein air. I tried to get most of the important shapes and colors and values on the canvas during that first few hours on location. Then I can finish the painting in the studio with mysketches and photos as reference.
