Rainy winter days offer me the opportunity to slow down and paint indoors in my studio. I chose my favorite vase, my favorite flowers from my garden, and my favorite table. In this painting it was my intent to paint the feeling I had on that cold dreary day, mellow, not bright, yet rich with color and warmth. I always enjoy the way the paint works in humid weather. It stays wet longer and is easier to work wet into wet on the canvas, giving the painting a different effect than when I paint outdoors in the sun and heat.
