Kathleen Elsey | Lavender Paintings Matanzas Creek

Matanzas Creek Winery is known for its fine wines and its thousands of lavender plants. I paint here a lot, since I used to livejust 1 mile away, as the crow flies, on Sonoma Mountain. It feels like I’m in Provence, when I stand amidst the lavender and olive trees. This painting was made in June when the lavender was in full bloom and they had just begun the harvest. I wish I could have painted the heat in the air, the gentle breeze, the buzzing of the bees and the scent of the lavender for you to enjoy as I did.
