24" x 30"This painting was made in the mountains of Sedona in August. The rock formations were like nothing I had seen before as it was my first time in Sedona. I thought it was so much more intimate than the Grand Canyon which is huge and overwhelming. I had just three hours to begin this painting since I was on my road trip to Taos and wanted to get there before dark. It was very hot in the valley the day I was there, so I worked early in the morning to make this painting (beginning) then continued on my drive to Taos. I finished the painting later in my studio. A couple of years later, I was fortunate to be accepted into the Sedona Plein Air Painting Competition. I met some wonderful painters from around the country. Alyce Frank was there, whom I had met several years earlier when in Taos. And, of course, she is one of my New Fauve painter friends. |
