Kathleen Elsey fauve painting made
during the Santa Barbara painting workshop,
"Dahlias with Yellow Peppers" 22” x 30” Sold I really struggled with this fauve painting. I worked with it for over a month in July and August, 2005. The dahlias died, I bought more. They died again. I bought more. It’s bright, it’s bold, it’s happy. Thank you to my famous fauve painters, Vincent Van Gogh and Matisse, and my favorite famous abstract expressionist, Richard Diebenkorn, for inspiring me to make this painting. I was also inspired to paint these dahlias on my sunny patio because my mother and her mother and my Dad's mother loved dahlias and each had their gardens full of multi colored dahlias. This painting was begun in the summer of 2005 during the Kathleen Elsey Santa Barbara painting workshop held in my studio/home. Kathleen Elsey, Santa Barbara artist |
