Kathleen Elsey Acrylic and Oil Paintings on Canvas
"I like to paint interior spaces, figures, beaches, still life, and landscapes in acrylic and oil on canvas. I chase light and shadows. I freeze colors and shapes transferring them into marks on my canvas. Some of my compositions have taken on a complexity forcing me to simplification as I organize them through paint. This has led my recent works toward a more abstract expressionist interpretation."

Tip: "I envision the completed painting before I pick up a brush. I look through my viewfinder, analyzing every quadrant of the painting. I look at the scene thinking of the colors and values I am about to paint. I think about the mood of the painting. Will it be dark and moody full of rich reds and browns, or will it be light and bright? I sketch the scene several times discovering more and more about what is before me. Finally, I pick up the brush and take off with paint."
